What Whipple's involves

Whipple's Procedure — నేను చెప్పేదిWhipple’s Procedure — What I tell patients

Whipple's Procedure (medical name: pancreaticoduodenectomy) pancreatic head, duodenum, gallbladder, bile duct portion, మరియు regional lymph nodes remove చేసే major surgery. తరువాత 3 anastomoses తో digestive tract reconstruct చేస్తాను. Typically 6-8 hours, 7-10 day hospital stay.

నేను AIIMS లో M.Ch training లో ఈ procedure regularly perform చేశాను. High-volume tertiary centre training అంటే cases volume తో experience వస్తుంది. ISGPS (International Study Group on Pancreatic Surgery) guidelines follow చేస్తాను.

Published data: low-volume centres లో Whipple's mortality 10-15%, high-volume specialised centres లో 2-3%. ఇది surgeon choice లో important consideration. Honestly చెప్పాలంటే, ఏ surgeon దగ్గరైనా annual Whipple's volume అడగడం patient's right.
